Jody Hepp

Music Ministries Director

Your position and role at Powell UMC; What are you passionate about?Music Ministries Director. I am passionate about making music that adds to the worship. I want our music to touch hearts and bring the singer and the listener closer to God.

What is the favorite part of your job? For me, finding the perfect song is like finding the perfect Christmas present. I love when the music compliments the message of the day when our singing comes to life in praise.

Family: Husband Joe and daughters, Josy and Danni.

Where are you from? I grew up in Wilmington, OH.

Ministry background, degrees, credentials: I grew up in a tiny Quaker church in Clinton County. I started singing in the choir in 4th grade and have never stopped. I have both my Bachelors and Masters in Music Education from Ohio State.

What are your hobbies? I’ve done quite a bit of community theatre.

Your favorite quote or verse from the Bible: Colossians 3:17, “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” I heard someone say once that no matter what we do – sing, preach or flip a burger, if we do it with love and with a heart for Jesus our light can shine through.

What has God been teaching you lately? After coming off disability, a part of my brain was completely panicked that I wouldn’t find a job and I’d continue to have health problems. My heart said “have faith.” I found the best teaching job I’ve ever had and I found PUMC and I know God has given me the life I’m intended to live now. We need to listen to that still small voice, even when we don’t understand and when it doesn’t seem to make sense to us. We need to be willing to loosen the grip of our own control and trust in God’s plan. I believe I’ve landed where I am supposed to be and all the stresses had a purpose, to lead me to this moment.
