Rev. Hannah VanMeter, Deacon

Youth Ministries Director

Coordinator of Social Justice and Social Media

Your position and role at Powell UMC; What are you passionate about? Youth Ministries Director. I am passionate about all things faith and social justice. I have a strong heart for women empowerment and human rights. I really enjoy getting to know people for who they are and hearing about their journey!

What is the favorite part of your job? My favorite part of this job is getting to know Powell church community and engaging with youth and young adults.

Family: I am from Maryland and my parents live in Rehoboth Beach, DE. I have a twin brother, Jacob, who lives in Philadelphia. I would call myself an East Coast native!

Ministry background, degrees: I am a preacher’s kid-my mom is a United Methodist Pastor and both of my grandfather’s were pastors in the UMC. I grew up going to church and was heavily involved in the youth program; I absolutely loved being a part of the church. While I was a student at Otterbein University, I helped to start up an inclusive, all welcoming worship program. I have a BA from Otterbein in Women’s Gender & Sexuality Studies and Peace & Social Justice. I graduated in May of 2018 with my Masters of Divinity from Wesley Theological Seminary.

What are your hobbies? I love to sing, workout and be with friends and family (preferably on the beach)! I’m also very much into baking shows on Netflix.

Your favorite quote or verse from the Bible: Galatians 3:28, “There is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male and female; for all of you are one in Christ.”

What has God been teaching you lately? God has been teaching me to let go, let God.
